Virga Tears: The True Story of a Soldier's Sojourn Back to Vietnam
Published in Paperback by Dickens Press (01 August, 2001)
Author: James H. Fallon
Average review score:

Delightful reading for all ages
Vigra tears is a delightful story of two men who visit Vietnam 30 years after the war. The author and his brother-in-law, different as night and day, share a most memorable experience in their journey and it gives you a different perspective of the war.
This book is worth reading, very witty and well written. I especially liked the chapter titles and how they related to the text of the book. It is easy reading for those that don't have a lot of time. The events that take place are interesting and informative and give you a sense of the country and people. The author makes you feel like you are right there with them. I didn't want it to end.

Reflections on the Vietnam War....30 years later....
I was not alive during the Vietnam War and only know what I read in the history books about it. After read Virga Tears I have a better understanding of what the war was like for soldiers (Nick), the people of Vietnam and those against the war (Jim).
There is great comdey and emotion between the two men in the story who couldn't be any more opposite then they are.
Once I picked up the book I could not put it down. The colorful words painted a vivid picture in my mind.
Great use of analogies. As an educator I would highly recommend it for a high school or college history class.
I laughed and cried reading this GREAT BOOK!!!

A compelling read
It is amazing to think that with the abundance of movies that have been written about the Vietnam War, not one has ever even come close to telling the story told in this book. Virga Tears gave me new insight into the Vietnam War, and an understanding of what so many soldiers must have gone through, emotionally, during the war, and during the thirty years since the war ended. This is a compelling book that you won't be able to put down. I highly recommend it to all.

Llewellyn's 2002 Herbal Almanac

Put a Smile on your Face...
This Calendar is Great...
The Witches Spells are at times, hilarious.
I'd heard most of them, as a child growing up in New Orleans, La.
A lot of the Spells, have probably been passed down to the reader as an 'old wives' tale'.
I read my daily Spell over Coffee, and always get a smile to take with me to my Workday.

How Does Your Herbal Garden Grow?
The 2002 Herbal Almanac is probably a must for any witch who grows an herbal garden. I received a copy of this book last year, and found myself referencing it many times, as I worked on my garden this year. While it has been an experimental year for me, this book does contain many solid articles. This year's book features articles from Elizabeth Barrette, Eileen Holland, Sara Greer and many others. The topics covered range from composting to herbal honeys and honey candied herbs (a sweet treat article), herbal care for expecting moms and kids and handling business stress with flower essences. There are many other good articles in here, too numerous to mention, as well as moon charts, eclectic herb plants and seed sources, zone charts, even potpourri recipes. A good source of information and ideas, and a great gift for that herbalist at Yule.

Essential reading
I was new to herbs when I bought this, but now I am hooked! There are soooo many things that you can use in here, this really is essential for anyone who has interest in anything to do with herbs.

Nibble Bible
The spiral binding makes for easy use. Generous margins allow for notes and comments. The introduction offers wonderful guidelines, including how much to make, based on number of guests and time of day; and a proper mix of food types.

I consider it my entertainment Bible, and the ladies' hints and tips make life easier. I have used it for everything from parties with friends to donating my "catering" services for a friend's in-home charity event.

Terrific book!
I bought this for my friend, after she borrowed my copy so many times!

Great recipies, from the quick last minute to the complicated 2 day variety, you'll find what you need for whatever type of party you are throwing. (fancy or the Superbowl.)

I haven't had any of the recipes fail yet! Good luck!

Outstanding hos d'oeuvres book!
I can't figure out why this wonderful book is out of print. Everything you ever needed for a party is here-from frozen goodies to microwave treats. Although I have hundreds of cookbooks, I always turn to this one, especially when a quick, easy snack is called for. Buy it!

Buster Baxter, Cat Saver (A Marc Brown Arthur Chapter Book 19)
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (May, 2000)
Authors: Marc Tolon Brown, Stephen Krensky, and Joe Fallon
Average review score:

"Edutainment" - But Definitely Not the Worst
Based on the "Arthur" episode by the same name, "Buster Baxter, Cat Saver" teaches a lesson, but at the same time includes humor that escalates to greater and greater levels throughout the story. When Buster "rescues" a cat from a tree, he at first denies that it was an act of heroism; he just happened to be in the right place at the right time. As more and more attention starts be heaped on him, he starts to really get into being a hero, even starting a script for his own television series, which he states will be "edutainment." ("It's supposed to be a combination of entertainment and education, but often ends up being the worst of both.") When he starts trying to get the Brain to do his homework and being otherwise pompous, his friends start hatching schemes to try to bring his eager down to size. This is one bunny, though, who isn't so easily swayed.

Buster Baxter Cat Saver
My class of first graders loved this story. This story hasfunny things happen to the characters. Arthur is upset because Busterthinks he is better than everyone. This story has many plots and mysteries as Buster's friends try to show him that he is not as brave as he thinks. It is easy to read and easy to follow, but NOT BORING!

My daughter loves this whole series
My 7-year old daughter (2nd grade) loves this entire series of books. When she was younger (up to kindergarten) she loved the "adventure" series of Arthur books. We made the transition to the chapter books because they have so much more story to them. They were perfect at the age where I would just read them to her, and by now we're at the point where she reads them to me. We have LOTS of books, but no others have held her interest as well across these stages. Fantastic value for the money. I automatically buy each new chapter book as they're released.

Magic, Mystery, and Mayhem : A complete guide to starting and running your own mother-daughter book group
Published in Paperback by momdotbooks (20 November, 2000)

Average review score:

Magic, Mystery and Mayhem
This book is for anyone who wants to read with children - their own children, their grandchildren - or even the neighbors' children. Although it does have strategies for building a book club, it also has tips for building a reading relationship between one adult and one or two kids. For instance, the book gives ways to read books that have some disturbing events in them - such as any book dealing with the holocaust will have. Don't get me wrong - it isn't all serious, but discussing serious issues is very possible with young readers and this collabortive team lets us know how to do that.

If all parents read with their children in this way, we would have a nation of amazing adolescents on their way to becoming fine leaders and thinkers. Now - THAT'S a thought. . . .

Magic, Mystery, and Mayhem: Review - first not registered
This book's title should not scare off a mom or daughter who feels she doesn't have time or inclination to start a book group. Its content is great inspiration for reading with your own child or a child you care about (regardless of gender). For instance, there are some very good thoughts on how to help a child handle potentially disturbing or scarey parts of an otherwise enjoyable book. Also, the reviews in the last chapter are really meaningful as a suggested reading list.

With the above in mind, I have suggested this to friends in my generation (as a grandparent) as well as to young parents and friends.

Magic, Mystery and Mayhem
This wonderful gem should be publicized everywhere in the USA. Not only does it include practical suggestions for the mechanics of starting a parent-child book club, it also shines with whimsy and freshness. Reading this book is like conversing with friends whose good senses of humor temper problem solving and strengthen their relationships. Sidebars let us see the uniqueness of the members of this collaborative team, and the book reviews by these young girls reveal such perception and kindness. I am giving it to friends - young and old - throughout the year 2001.

Phantom Illness: Recognizing, Understanding, and Overcoming Hypochondria

Putting my fears into perspective
I could hear my own words from many of the stories that were told. I feel I'm not alone and think this will really help, along with therapy and medication. Truly this book is a great help!

Helped me a LOT!
I've allways had a lot of anxiety about my health, and lately it has gotten worse. This book helped me see that I am not alone. I recognized myself in a lot of the case studies. It has really inspired me to get treatment for my problem. I was also glad to see that she addressed the stigma hypochondria has in our society.

A book of knowledge
I start reading this book a few months ago mainly out of curiosity about hypochondria, but also because I had always being a worrier about my health and my friends were always calling me a hypochondriac. However, I never knew something really about this mental situation. It was time to start learning a few things about it so I picked the book and started my journey. Now that the journey is over I may say that the book is a real source of knowledge, encouragement and support. For those of us (and I know that there are many out there!) that have experienced hypochondria even if it was transient this book definetely gives some answers to questions that we are afraid to ask. A big thank you to the authors !

Never Leave Home Without it!!!
This planner is so much more than just a planner. I find I use it as an ephemeris every day and take it with me in my briefcase whereever I go. This is the first book I buy I every year and I imagine will be a continual purchase every year henceforth!
No other ephemeris I know of tells the reader down to the minute when moon is v/c and to what, or the exact minute of a placement any given day. I live by this book!!

Essential!!!!
An essential tool for anyone who is into astrology. It has the aspects and emphemeris in an easy to work with format, and it is sturdy enough to carry with you. I bring mine back and forth to work, I couldn't do without it!

The Prison Called Hohenasperg: An American Boy Betrayed By His Government During World War II
Published in Paperback by Upublish.com (15 May, 1999)
Authors: Arthur D. Jacobs, Joseph E. Fallon, and William J. Hopwood
Average review score:

German-American Internment
I started the process of researching German-American internment for a English-101 assignment. I found the author's web site and various other materials on internment. My schooling consisted of learning about Japanese relocation, and as 40-year-old adult, I never knew of the internment of others, called enemy aliens of the United States.

Locating Mr. Jacobs' book in my library, I read a fascinating account of what the author and his family endured during World War II, and after the war with the expatriation and repatriation to Germany.

Interviewing Mr. Jacobs for my research paper, culminated in a better understanding of what our government did, and may do once again with Arab-Americans in the attempt to prevent future terrorism. It is tragic when a government does what it thinks right at the time, but then refuses to apologize for the injustices committed against its own citizens.

I recommend this book to every German-American, as well as all Americans who never learned the whole story during their formative education.

A Story About Truth and Courage in Tough Times!
Mr. Art Jacobs, the author of "The Prison Called Hohenasperg" writes his story out of love. Love of life, country, friends, and family. Unfortunately, Art, at the age of 12 was separated from these very basic essentials of life.

He narrarates this true story detailing his youth in school, boy scouts, and support for his ball club, the Brooklyn Dodgers. However, life will soon change for young Art and his family as his father is illegally taken from them and interned at Ellis Island as a "Nazi criminal". This is just the beginning of the Jacob's family internment journey that takes them from Ellis Island, to the Crystal City Texas Internment Camp, then to Germany where Art spends his 13th birthday in the Hohenasperg prison.

I believe that his intention and motive for writing his story is NOT for compensation, revenge, or to denounce the United States. As I read his story, I felt his sincerity, compassion, and most importantly his intention to MAKE THE TRUTH KNOWN. Because of Art's story, The United States Government has an opportunity to acknowlege Art and other internees that wrongdoings to Americans of German decent did occur.

I recommend this hard to put down, well documented book to those who are interested in WWII history, post WWII Germany, internment life, as well as those interested in reading a boy's burning desire to overcome and succeed under any circumstance to come back to his "Country 'tis of thee".

Only one week?
... A young boy marched back and forth before the hangman's tree with his hands above his head, ordered not the speak, turn his head the wrong way, or even sit to eat - unless he wanted to be hanged - treated like the worst criminals the world has known - and called a little Nazi - He was an American Boy Scout! One day of such treatment, even if corrected immediately, is inexcuseable. We must stop thinking that the United States make mistakes, but the rest of the world makes criminal acts.

I believe this book should be an eye-opener. We need to be concerned that our government can give such power to one man such as Edward J. Ennis, that our military could treat even criminals the way this child was treated, and that most Americans still know nothing about the treatment of German Americans during World War II.
